Nick Fry is a scenic and costume designer based in Sydney, working across musical theatre, theatre, opera, and large-scale live events. He holds both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in Design for Performance from NIDA, where he is also a lecturer and occasionally returns to design graduate productions and fundraising events.

Nick’s portfolio reflects a dynamic versatility. His international work includes major contributions to Dubai Expo 2020, where he served as the set designer for Artists in Motion on Diwali Celebration, Why? The Musical, and the New Year’s and Christmas celebrations at Al Wasl Plaza. He also worked on the Red Sea Film Festival and the UAE’s 48th National Day celebrations, and was concept designer for Luna Park’s immersive experience Dream Circus. Nick also delivered the Hsing Yun exhibition in Melbourne for Artists in Motion and has worked as a concept designer for Rizer.

Nick has worked as set design associate for major productions such as Miss Saigon for GWB/Cameron Mackintosh, Madame Butterfly for Opera Australia and Titanique for Michael Cassel. He also designed both the 2024 and 2025 A Very Musical Christmas for Michael Cassel in both Sydney and Melbourne. Nick’s work in Musical Theatre extends to the Hayes Theatre Co. including Metropolis (Little Eggs Collective), which won the 2023 Sydney Theatre Award for Best Stage Design of an Independent Production, The Producers (JRP Australia), Once on this Island (Curveball Creative), Pirates of Penzance and Zombie! The Musical. Most recently Nick designed Sondheim’s Putting it Together for Impresario Productions & the Foundry Theatre and the Australian premiere production of The Prom for Teatro & On Your Feet Australia.

Nick’s acclaimed theatre work at the Ensemble Theatre includes sets and costumes for The One, Benefactors, Uncle Vanya, The Heartbreak Choir, Dial M for Murder and he returns this year to design 84 Charing Cross Road.
